Gen 3: Troubleshooting ERR5

What is ERR5?

ERR5 is displayed when the batch tank volume exceeds its maximum.

Most Common Cause:

  • The unit has a Brass flow meter, but the unit has been inadvertently set up in the controller to accept the input of a Plastic flow meter (used in older systems, now obsolete.)
  • SET-UP Menu, PLS (Plastic) has been selected instead of brS (Brass)

Other Potential Causes:

  • Float switch is 1) stuck in down position due to buildup of residue on post that hinders its travel on the post, or 2) Float switch is disconnected from the wiring harness, or 3) Float switch has failed.  For any of these, during the FILL routine, water will run out of the unit until the controller recognizes the issues and closes the inlet solenoid valve.
  • Batch Tank:  Leak caused by hole or tear.  Water will run out of the unit.
  • Flowmeter:  1) not working properly, 2) flow of water from the faucet too high or turbulent for flowmeter to work properly

 

Troubleshooting Steps:

1.  Confirm the type of flow meter installed in the unit:

  • All Gen 3s with serial numbers of 403183 and higher have brass flow meters installed.
  • If the unit has a lower serial number, you can see the flow meter by removing the controller, lifting the shroud and looking at the back wall of the unit.

2.  Confirm flow meter setting in controller:

  • Clear error – press Red MENU/Stop button for 5 seconds
  • SET-UP Menu, FM
  • PLS for Plastic, brS for Brass

3.  Attempt to reproduce ERR5:

  • Ensure faucet supplying water to the unit is on
  • Run Manual Mist – press the ▲ and ▼ buttons simultaneously and hold for 2 secs.
  • If water is flowing out of unit and ERR5 results, it is likely that the problem is with the float switch.  Proceed with Step 4.
  • If water is not flowing out of unit and ERR5 results, it is likely that the problem is with the flow meter.  Proceed with Step 5.

4.  If water is flowing out of unit:

  • See Gen 3:  Run Float Switch Diagnostic
  • If diagnostic indicates the float position is “down” and is working, it is likely that residue on the post is hindering the travel of the float.  Clean the float switch and attempt to reproduce the error.
  • If diagnostic indicates, the float position is “up” and displays do not reflect float position, it is likely that float has failed or is disconnected from the wiring harness.  Check connections and attempt to reproduce the error.
  • If connections are secure and displays do not reflect position of float, replace float.  See Gen 3:  Replace Float Switch
  • If float switch is operable and clean, inspect batch tank for tears or holes.

5.  If water is not flowing out of unit:
